Michigan’s Wine Country Grows Where the Cherry Is King - New York Times

Augh!

One thing we (I mean Ann and I, not local businesses) don't need is more tourists! There are enough cone-sucking idiots up there right now, getting in my way and slowing me down everywhere I go. (Ann tells me I "drive like a local" up there now, which basically means speeding around all the corners as fast as possible.)

If we all just keep it nice and quiet, maybe Leelanau can chug along and not get ruined by development too much.....

well, I am sure the vineyard owners are really happy about their NY Times fame!

One of the best in state vacations I have had is a wine tour up in Leelanau. I came home with a case of wine, mostly cherry of some sort, and a lot less money. My favorite place was Mawby's. They produce some great sparkling wines (especially the Blanc de Blanc and Blanc de Noir). The winery owned by Madonna's family sucked.

I think Mawby's is A's favorite place up there.
Is KC a cone-sucker too, Mr. Bean town

As a property owner, I can't be a cone sucking idiot, even if I am a transplant from BeanTown (doesn't my 17 years in MI count for anything?).

I don't think Mawby is Ann's favorite place up there, but you would have to ask her. Certainly not mine, sparkling wine (which is basically all they make) sucks.

I guess I must have gone there with Ann and she bought a bunch for New Years.

I liked some of Mawby's sparkling but generally it's not my favorite type anymore. SOme are too dry for me, but it's a lovelyl site and they are among the 1st to make a go of it.
