Sakura Matsuri

Today we met Linda, Jordan, and the kids at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Apparently this is a big deal, but we did not figure that out until it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to travel 1.5 miles and park. The trees are at their peak and they had a lot of Japanese performers there. The place was an absolute mob scene. Jordan said that garden is usually pretty empty. There were people all over the grass that was roped off with signs saying, "stay off the grass; recently re-seeded". There were adults carving initials into trees, and kids climbing trees that looked like the branches were about to fall off under their weight! The garden was really beatiful, so we will have to go back when it is calmer.

Radiohead Fake Plastic Trees Live @ Glastonbury 2003
This song is perfect for gloomy days like today. If you are reading from a sunny spot, please disregard!
Kick in the arse
I need a kick in the ass. It is rainy and I want to get paperwork done. I swear I am so much more distractible as I get older. Maybe I should close the 4 windows I have open while I am trying to write my eval!
On another note, I thought the watermark on the Office last night was so frickin' hilarious! I wonder if we could buy some of that. I guess I could just ask Mike if his company can fill my order :)

If I had a tail, it would wag to the right for all of you!

The Late Colorblind James at the Grassroots Festival
I taped this song years ago late at night (I was listening to my college radio station). I never knew that it would come back to haunt me later when we faced a potential move to Memphis! I suppose we did not consider the move very seriously. I have never seen a xylophone jam band. If you tire of it, the singing resumes at 3:35 minutes.
Turkeys Part 2
Mike and I were jogging last night by the woods in SUNY, and we heard intense gobbling. We looked up in the woods, and there again were roostin' turkeys. Thanksgiving is going to be much easier next year!
I also have a late night thought on the Sheryl Crow and one square of toilet paper. How do you adequately clean up your business with one square? Maybe I have OCD, but I use a tree to clean up. I will save the world in another way.

Fierce Calamari
I learned something new last night. Did you know that squid are pretty mean? They are cannibals and carnivores. They have a beak-like thing in their mouths to tear flesh up. So think of that when you are enjoying your calamari!

good flick
Saw a good flick tonight. It was called "After the Wedding", and I will not tell you any of the plot. I did not read up much about it, and it was a best foreign picture nominee. No Hollywood ending: just the way I like it!

What impressed me the most was the fact he has a child named "Marmaduke". I think that took the most balls personally. Forget the special services and climbing Everest.

Here are photos of our flooded Y. Who knows when it will open again. The good news is that the sun is finally out after a week of cloud and rain, and it is finally seasonal outside (low 60s). We have been trying out the other Ys in the area since they are letting us use them while ours is fixed. I have come to the conclusion that our Y is the best one in the area. We visited the Y in Greenwich expecting it to be super fancy (it's Greenwich after all!). It was sort of dumpy with a tiny pool. I suppose all of the really froo froo people go to froo froo gyms I guess. I think we go to the froo froo Y. Maybe since it is nice, it is good enough for all of the froo froos. Enough frooing!

Rustic Multi-Grain Bread - Allrecipes
Rustic Multi-Grain Bread - Allrecipes
When it was raining on Sunday, and Mike was doing the rest of our taxes, I made bread for the second time. It came out really great, and I did not follow everything with precision since I am lazy. I did add sesame seeds, flax seeds, and sunflower seeds liberally (how can a multigrain bread recipe lack chunks of stuff?). So if you have some time to kill, make this bread with any additions you see fit.
Our gym is flooded out, so it is closed until further notice. Just when I was getting in shape. Unfortunately our weather is not nice, so outdoor workouts are not fun.
